Ana Marie Forsythe discovered the Horton technique at age 12 and quickly fell in love with its blend of Native American dances, anatomical studies, and other movement influences. Today, the Jersey-born dancer is one of its foremost experts.
Since her start as an educator at The Ailey School in , Forsythe has been dedicated to keeping the integrity and legacy of the Horton Method center stage. She developed all four levels of the Horton curriculum at The Ailey School. Much of this exhilarating and dynamic technique can be seen in various classics by Alvin Ailey, including his masterwork, Revelations.

What called you to dance?
I had an older sister and she had started taking dance. I wanted to do everything she did, so I started taking ballet classes at the school of the Garden State Ballet. When I took that first class, that first grand plié, I knew it was right. It was what I wanted to do. It was fabulous!

Lester Horton (January 23, November 2, ) was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a young boy, Horton was fascinated by the American Indian, which later inspired him to study Native American dance and influenced his movement style. His interest in dance began in when Ted Shawn and Ruth St. Deniss tour came to Indianapolis. He began to study ballet, and in he auditioned for a US tour with Forrest Thornburg, a former Denishawn dancer. Touring allowed him to learn a large part of the Denishawn repertoire and study modern. After the tour he returned to Indianapolis where he pursued his early interest in the American Indian and studied Native American dance with Clara Bates. Together they created a pageant based on the poem The Song of Hiawatha. They were invited to perform the piece at the Argus Bowl in Eagle Rock, Ca in Horton decided to stay in California where he began to study with Michio Ito. Later that year he performed At The Hawks Well choreographed by Ito at the Argus Bowl.
Horton began teaching and choreographing in the Los Angeles Area. In he began teaching students at Glendale High School, and in he joined the faculty at Norma Goulds School of Dance. He was invited to perform at the Dance Festival at
