Biography
Omoba Segun Adewale was born into a royal family in Osogbo, Nigeria. However, due to his father's disapproval of his musical aspirations, Adewale left home and moved to Lagos. There, he met notable juju musicians such as S. L. Atolagbe and I. K. Dairo. In the 1970s, Adewale and Shina Peters played together under the mentorship of Prince Adekunle, a pioneer of Afrobeat juju music.
Musical Career
In 1977, Adewale, alongside Shina Peters, formed a group called Shina Adewale and the Superstars International. The group released nine albums before splitting in 1980, with both musicians going on to form their own separate bands. By 1984, Adewale's music had evolved into what is now known as Yo-pop, a distinctive fusion of various genres that gained widespread recognition.
